What if I didn't get my W-2 or 1099?

All employers are required to send you a Form W-2, Form 1099-R, Form 1099-INT, or Form 1099-MISC by January 31st for the tax year. If you don't receive either of these forms by then, or if the form you do receive has incorrect information, contact your employer/payer immediately.

If you still don't receive the missing or corrected form by February 15th from your employer/payer, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 for assistance. You'll need to verify your identity (name, address including zip code, phone number, SSN) and provide them with:

  1. Dates Of Employment
  2. Your Employer/Payer's Name
  3. Your Employer/Payer's Address
  4. Your Employer/Payer's Phone Number

The IRS will contact the employer/payer for you and request the missing form and send you a substitute for Form W-2 or Form 1099-R (Form 4852). If you don't receive your missing form in time to file your tax return, you can use the Form 4852.
